"This one had to open the album because everything else on here grows out of it. Before I could talk about love or legacy or any of it I had to establish where I come from. Block Report is my way of saying — this city is not just a backdrop. It's a character. It shaped my vocabulary, my work ethic, my sense of what's real and what isn't. I left once. Thought I needed to go somewhere else to become something. Came back understanding that everything I needed to become was already right here on these blocks. The six in the morning imagery in the first verse — that's a real memory. That old man sweeping the same sidewalk every morning taught me something about consistency that nobody in a classroom ever could."
