01 Seminole Patchwork with Paper

This is the first in a series of video that teaches how to make Seminole Patchwork designs with paper. Tradtionally these designs are made of fabric. Making them with paper is quite satisfying! To get started, look at https://bookzoompa.wordpress.com/2023/11/12/what-youll-need-to-join-in/ Sometime around the early1900's the Seminole people began developing this method of creating patterns with fabric. The designs can be simple or mind-blowingly complex. In this first video I start with a simple design, but don't be fooled. By varying scale and colors, or by using decorated papers this single motif can have many different looks. The main focus of this video, however, to set the stage for the rest of the workshops. Although there was time built into the first session for people to cut the strips that are needed, future sessions will assume that the participants will cut the prior to class.
