Software Defined Vehicles represent a shift from hardware-centric automotive design to software-driven architecture, where functionality, features, and performance are primarily controlled and enhanced through software. 1. Definition An SDV is a vehicle in which most functions—such as infotainment, safety systems, powertrain control, and driver assistance—are managed by software rather than fixed hardware components. 2. Key Characteristics Separation of hardware and software: Core vehicle functions are abstracted from hardware, enabling flexibility. Over-the-Air (OTA) updates: Vehicles receive remote software updates for bug fixes, new features, and performance improvements. Centralized computing architecture: Replaces multiple ECUs with domain or zonal controllers. Connectivity: Continuous communication with cloud platforms for data exchange and analytics. Service-oriented architecture (SOA): Features are exposed as services, similar to APIs in cloud systems.
