There are three important checkpoints in the cell cycle. They include the G1 checkpoint, the G2 checkpoint, and the spindle checkpoint. At these checkpoints, chemical signals may stop the cell from moving onto the next step, help the cell to move to the next step, or cause apoptosis (cell death).
