Stop that annoying nether portal sound and the occasional pesky zombie pigman with two nether portal designs with on and off switches and one wide redstone; that makes the entire nether portal two wide including the obsidian and redstone.
The first design is as compact as I could make it and still hide the redstone, so you can fit it into some small spaces in your survival world. The second design hides all the redstone underground except the two dispensers, so it should fit in with just about any build.
