10-29-20 Engine Run
After spending a couple of days at the hangar this week, chasing down various possibilities of what caused her to run so rough on her last flight, we were able to narrow the problem down to carburetion. Today, we changed the carburetor and were rewarded with a strong start on pull number seven. As she was running John made several adjustments to the carburetor jets to get her to run more smoothly before shutting her down. After some discussion with Sean about what the gauges were reading during the run, John decided to start her again to see how she would react to a couple more adjustments to those settings. There is still more to work out, but at least we now know what caused the problems on the last flight, and we are well on our way to rectifying the situation. We consider today's run a SUCCESS! Yes! She shares her hangar with a Bellanca. The Bellanca was the aircraft Charles Lindbergh had originally wanted to purchase to make the trip from New York to Paris in 1927. However, when the Bellanca company told him THEY would be selecting the pilot to fly the aircraft, he declined to purchase their airplane. He then went to the Ryan Company in San Diego, and the rest ... as they say ... is HISTORY!
