This pour is especially critical because we’re tying brand-new concrete into an existing structural foundation. Earlier in the project, we had to excavate a massive portion of the original foundation to install a new French drain system that would protect the entire pool structure and surrounding home from long-term water intrusion. Now, after all the prep, rebar, formwork, and drainage upgrades, it’s finally time to lock everything together with a clean, seamless concrete placement. Before we could pour, the crew had to carefully demo, trench, and expose the foundation footing without damaging the structural integrity of the pool shell. Once the French drain trench was installed and wrapped with proper geotextile fabric and drainage rock, we rebuilt the forms and tied in a full rebar grid to connect the new concrete slab to the old one. Ensuring the rebar dowels, lap lengths, and bar spacing were perfect was crucial for achieving a solid bond between the old foundation and the new pour—especially for a high-end project like this. With everything secured and inspected, our concrete crew brought in the pump truck and began placing the new structural concrete. Because this is a luxury pool in Austin’s rocky soil conditions, we used a high-strength concrete mix designed for stability, longevity, and water management. Pouring directly against the existing foundation required precision to avoid cold joints and ensure the new slab achieves full structural monolithic performance. From the first pass of the pump hose to screeding, bull floating, and finishing, the team made sure every inch of this slab tied in perfectly with the original foundation.
