12 cent pen
12 cent pen. My aim with this project was to build my turning skills particularly the use of the skew chisel. I found the information in these other videos very helpful as I was undertaking this project. My thanks to those who take the trouble to share their knowledge so that others like myself can learn and enjoy this craft. A 5/32" drill is used to bore out about 1" of the barrel to accept the nib. The rest is bored out using an 1/8" drill bit 6" long. For convenience I made a custom drill holder to save constantly switching out the drills in my Jacobs chuck. The finish is "Shine Juice" equal parts shellac, boiled linseed oil and denatured alchohol. The skew has a bevel angle of about 24° I use a basic 8" grind wheel (I need to purchase a better one), finished on a diamond stone then honed with a leather strop. If there is any key to using the skew it is that it needs to be as sharp as possible, then a little bit sharper ;)
