1927 Ryan M-2 ... Plus
John takes you on a "tour" of his workshop and tells more about the 1927 Ryan M-2 he has built new wing ribs for. We recently uploaded another video of him demonstrating how he builds the ribs for this airplane. Along with the M-2, the shop currently houses a pre-war Taylorcraft under restoration ... a 1946 Willy's Jeep project ... an experimental Super-cub "look-alike" that John refers to as his "floor sweepings airplane". He is building this airplane with leftover parts from a variety of aircraft he has restored over the past 35-years or so! These projects "live with" the three antique cars his father restored over the years prior to his death in 2016 ... and boat building tools and other relics that his Grandfather and Great-Grandfather used to build boats on Lopez Island from the late 1880's on through the 1950's. In the "engine shop" portion of the building, John shows the Wright J-5 Whirlwind engine he is putting together to power the M-2 when she flies. He also shows us a couple of the machines he has built and uses when he rebuilds magnetos!
