1966 Mercury Comet

I recently picked up this Mercury Comet equipped with a Ford 200 cubic-inch “Thriftpower” inline-six, an Autolite 1100 single-barrel carburetor, and an automatic transmission. From what I was told, it used to belong to a school teacher who drove it back and forth to work every day. Over time, though, the years caught up with it, and it eventually got parked and left to sit for who knows how long. At first glance, it looks like your typical forgotten old car, but like always, there’s more to it once you start digging in. It’s mostly complete, pretty untouched, and still carries that original character, but sitting hasn’t done it any favors. The previous owner mentioned he had messed with the car a few years back and managed to get it halfway back to life. He believed the starter switch was the issue, but it turned out to be the ignition coil. Update after finishing the upload: All four brakes need to be redone, the gas tank needs to be replaced, the floor pans need to be patched, the headliner needs to be secured back up out of my face, along with fresh oil, a coolant flush, and new differential fluid. The Autolite 1100 rebuilt in the video also has a stuck "power valve." (The power valve operates off vacuum, staying closed at idle and opening under lower vacuum to allow more fuel flow.) While these can be replaced, it requires drilling out the cap and installing a new one. Instead, in the next Comet video, I’ll be swapping in another Autolite 1100 I have.
