There are two ways on how to set up a double integral for the plane area. One is when the area element is vertical and the other one is having a horizontal area element. Sometimes one set up shows an easier way to solve the integral being formed than the other. One of the crucial points that should be taken into consideration in setting up is the limits of integration where a modest drawing of the area is required in order to ease this difficulty. Two examples are given to illustrate the step by step procedure in setting up the double integral for the plane area. One of which is an example showing two ways of solving it (using Vertical Area Element & Horizontal Area Element) and arriving at the same answer. The second problem is finding the area of a region where some are above the x - axis and some are below the horizontal axis.
