2021 Datathon Conclusion: Exploring Judicial Patterns
The 2021 RLadies Philly hackathon is focused on exploring judicial patterns in Philadelphia courts. Our partner, the Judge Accountability Table (JAT), has provided a subset of deidentified data related to public court dockets for defendants in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, to enable participants to hone their data science skills by: - Exploring and describing this rich, messy data more completely - Stratifying data (e.g., comparing simple, low-severity charges with one another and complex, violent crime allegations with one another) - Answering specific questions, or discovering what additional work or information would be required to be able to answer these questions - Analyzing sparsity / missingness and discovering what the public interest is in ensuring freedom of information - Understanding predictive factors in carceral outcomes (e.g. does age / sex / race correlate with bail amount?) At this meetup, groups will present their results and discuss their experiences.
