Clinical steps: • The face bow transfers the relationship of the maxillary arch, the cranium and T.M.J. to the articulator. • Ear piece maxillary face bow will be used to make the face bow record. • Parts: U-shaped frame (bow) - Ear pieces - Bite fork - Universal joints - Nasion relator - Locking screws. • Fix the fork to the wax of upper occlusal rim just 2 mm below the occlusal plane and parallel to it. • Heat the fork to increase its interlocking with wax. The fork rod must coincide with the midline of the patient. • Insert the upper occlusal rim with the fork inside the patient mouth. The record blocks should be retentive enough to carry the bite fork. • Loosen all face bow screws and the universal joints then attach them to the bite fork rod. • Insert the ear pieces into the external auditory meatus and then lock the face bow screws to lock the inter-condylar distance during registration. • Lock all the screws of the Nasion and the universal joints before removing the face bow. • Loose the bow screws to remove the ear pieces from the ears then remove the occlusal rims from the patient mouth. • The face bow record is finished and ready to be transferred to the articulator. • Next step will be about transfer of the face bow record to the articulator.
