We consider what happens when we're given a joint distribution that is Gaussian and we integrate out a subset of the variables to get the marginal distribution on the rest. We complete the square to avoid performing the integrations directly and conclude that the resulting marginal distribution is also Gaussian, with mean and covariance given by the mean and covariances of the marginal variables.
