24K Magic by Bruno Mars - Keyboard Tutorial / Deconstruction

"24K Magic" of Bruno Mars deconstructed and performed by Umut Erhan. This video is the second and final big tutorial in the series I started two years earlier with my Thriller deconstruction — a video that became surprisingly popular among keyboard players. For “24K Magic,” I wanted to take the same idea further: a full live performance on the Korg Kronos, with the tutorial happening visually through text, colors, and 2D animations that show the layers, splits, Karma scenes, controllers, and samples working behind the music in real time. I spent about a month on this one, working long days to get both the sound and the visual feedback right. I even sampled extra harmonies with my talkbox and mapped them to the keys for the intro, so they could blend with the main melody while I’m playing and singing through the talkbox. The video was later shared by Keyboard Magazine, and David Rosenthal (Billy Joel, Rainbow) left a “Nice work! Good stuff!” comment, which meant a lot at the time. With more than 225k views, it became my second most‑watched tutorial after Thriller. It also ended up being the last big one I made — projects like this take a huge amount of time, and the YouTube landscape shifted toward shorter, vertical formats with less room for this level of detail.
