If you’re sometimes overwhelmed by trying to stay on top of work, workouts, relationships, and replying to 73 unread messages, you’re not alone! What normally happens as we go through our corporate career is that we build systems to manage projects, teams and our personal workload which ensure we hit key deadlines and progress towards our goals. However, when it comes to the other areas of our life, we often don’t apply those same strategies! For example, many people have long-standing goals or New Year’s Resolutions which they make no progress towards. Often, these are goals which fall into ‘Quartile 2’ of the Eisenhower matrix. They’re important, but not urgent. Goals like exercising more regularly, meal prepping, learning languages, future planning or starting a side hustle or hobby are never truly urgent- we never HAVE to exercise today. This means that we find it easy to de-prioritise them when we don’t have systems in place to ensure progress But just imagine if one of those goals you’ve been putting off became your primary KPI at work, upon which your bonus and progress would be decided... You’d probably be a lot more confident about hitting the goal because you’d start implementing proven strategies you already use at work!
