3.4 : The Sinusoid
Welcome to Week 3 Lecture 4 of the course "Electronic Systems Thinking", taught by Profs. Sankaran Aniruddhan, Boby George, and Janakiraman Viraraghavan. Full Course: https://study.iitm.ac.in/es/course_pages/EE1101.html Video Overview This lecture introduces time varying signals with a focus on the sinusoidal signal as a cornerstone of electrical engineering. We explain the key properties of sinusoidal signals including amplitude, frequency, and phase, and connect them to real world applications such as generators, simple harmonic motion, and musical instruments. The lecture also shows how alternating current sources applied to resistors lead to instantaneous and average power calculations, and concludes with an introduction to root mean square voltages. About IIT Madras' online Bachelor of Science programme IIT Madras offers four-year BS programmes that aim to provide quality education to all, irrespective of age, educational background, or location. The BS programme has multiple levels, which provide flexibility to students to exit at any of these levels. Depending on the courses completed and credits earned, the learner can receive a Foundation Certificate from IITM CODE (Centre for Outreach and Digital Education), Diploma(s) from IIT Madras, or BSc/BS Degrees from IIT Madras.
