[4K] 🇧🇬 Sofia Metro | All the Lines
The Metro in Sofia Bulgaria is one of the many central-European metro systems built in the late 20th century. Like many soviet metro systems built in neighbouring countries the stations are often large and well decorated making each station unique and easy to identify. M3 was built much later than the other ones which means it’s more modern however they still kept the stations extravagant. It is also one of the only cities in the world to use rope platform barriers. They are a cheaper alternative to platform screen doors and heavily increase safety on the system. The rolling stock consists mainly of Russian Metrowagonmash trains but the newest trains on M3 were built by Siemens. The oldest trains have been gradually refurbished but some still remain in original condition making Sofia the only city in the EU to still operate unrefurbished Metrowagonmash trains from the Soviet Union era. I felt the vibe of this Metro system to be quite unique, and I recommend anyone who finds themselves in Sofia to use it since it is surprisingly extensive and useful.
