4th Grade Math 12.9, Word Problem Solving Elapsed Time

We can use the strategy draw a diagram by making a timeline to solve elapsed time problems. A timeline helps is count the number of hours and minutes of elapsed time forward or backward from the given start, or end time, to find the unknown time. There are three parts to elapsed time, start time, elapsed time which is the time gone by, and the end time. We need at least two of these to solve elapsed time problems. Remember, one day is 24 hours. There are 12 hours in the a.m., and 12 hours in the p.m. We solve nine word problems involving elapsed time.
