8 metre WC R6 2016 Pretty footage. We found clear air, a nice spot for that start. Notice how King Harald in the green hulled SIRA sails a bit low out of his tack to stbd, and the disturbed air from other boats slows him further and lower into the third row, forcing him to tack immediately to port after the start. Bummer. I didn't call for it yet, so I'd say we tacked back towards the start a bit early. It kinda bears out that way. We were in a really good spot, climbing up on top of other boats. We rock this start, but we were approaching and curving down and away, instead of staying lower early so as be coming up higher, accelerating until the gun. We didn't regain speed and never came up to point higher than the others. But we had a great start with speed and clear air. Watch ALUETTE maintain speed, but outpoints early and crushes us and those others. Also note, after the start, the 4th boat from the left is getting dirty air off the boats ahead of him, and he dies, sailing lower and slower, and unwisely doesn't tack away to clear his air. A lot of good boats tack and go past our transom as the starts sort themselves out. I'm really pleased with the shot of ISKAREEN tacking close. Old boat sailed like faster new boat. Nice shots of 8 metres on smooth water shot from under our headsail near the end. Sparkling water- Beautiful Day for racing.
