A balanced cross-section through the Subalpine chains

Part of The Shear Zone Channel. The structure of the Subalpine fold and thrust belt, on the outer parts of the French Alps, is explored using a balanced cross-section. The video goes through, stepwise, how the section is constructed so that it balances, emphasising the role of synchronously constructing both the present-day section and the restored template. This allows the restoration to inform as-yet uninterpreted parts of the cross-section and to incorporate stratigraphic variations.
