This is typically where I will leave the reed when scraping it from a rough scrape. I like to rough scrape, let the reed rest and dry out (Day 1), and then get it vibrating on Day 2 to a stage that I call "balanced". The crow is stable, with a good relationship of highs and lows, and in the ballpark of a C in octaves. I then let it rest and dry out, finishing it on another day. The slower I work down my reeds, the longer they tend to last.
