A Chance Encounter
This is one of the songs I've been working on for my concept album of The Count of Monte Cristo. While I don't have any singers yet, follow along with the lyrics and the piano playing the vocal parts. Lyrics: HAYDEE: “Monsieur!” DANTES: “Yes?” HAYDEE: “Please, you have to listen to me!” DANTES: “Do I now?” HAYDEE: “You’re the first frenchman I’ve seen in years.” “I swear to you, I do not belong here. I am the daughter of Ali Pasha, the Lion of Yaninna, and king of albania. I do not belong here!” DANTES: “Ali Pasha fell twenty years ago, and you are here as a servant in the market of Constantinople. Why should I believe anything you have to say?” HAYDEE: “I can help you.” HAYDEE: You’ve been looking for a soldier who fought twenty years ago with my father. “You know him?” DANTES: “Oh, I know him” HAYDEE: I may not be princess “Anymore” But the walls here have ears, and they’ve heard you Tell me more, madame My father had a man, he trusted more than anyone. DANTES: A Frenchman? HAYDEE: “A frenchman, yes” When the tide of the battle turned, and it seemed we might be free, that frenchman took a message from the enemy to Ali DANTES: The enemy to your father HAYDEE: And the message said that we’d safely arrive, my mother and I and my father Yet when we escaped we found we’d been lied to, my father was killed and my mother and I were sold, all because of one man ----- who lied “And his name” BOTH: Was Fernand Mondego HAYDEE: “You know him?” DANTES: “Oh, I know him.” “What is your name?” HAYDEE: “Haydee” DANTES: “God believes in the justice men can impart, H aydee.” “Mondego wronged me too, you see.
