As the Israelites left Egypt, they struggled to leave Egypt behind. The song tells the story of an Israelite still carrying the fear, habits, and chains he left behind. Standing on the edge of deliverance, he wrestles with the truth that escape isn’t enough - he needs to be changed from within. So instead of asking only for safety, he pleads with God for a different heart, one that can truly become who he was meant to be.
