You can catch up on the ongoing story here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhLU3zXzMnbm5n60vaZTBoYtz0BWrGYVs (A song I wrote but AI sang:) The months stretched long and restless, each one wearing thinner and thinner on the Escaped King’s patience. At first, he told himself it was just temporary—she was new, she was something pretty his people would fawn over, but it would eventually die down. They would realize that it was his war, his strategy, his crown that had been stolen and reclaimed. So he let them sing her name in the streets and paint her in gold and fire. Let them call her savior, dragon queen, the flame that saved them all. But to this day, a year later, every victory still wore her face. Every story began with her wings in the sky, her fire in the dark, her name on their lips—not his, never his. At court, they bowed deeper to her than him. In the streets, they reached for her, not him. Even in whispers, even in songs meant to honor him, they praised her. Marriage was supposed to fix that. That was the plan. A union, a merging of power, a quiet return to order. Once she was his wife, once she carried his heir, she would settle. She would soften. She would become what queens were meant to be—still, composed, seated beside him while he ruled. But she did not still. She did not soften. She did not bend. Even now, heavy with child, she moved through the kingdom like wildfire given form—untouchable, unstoppable, adored. She rode at dawn, trained soldiers at noon, and spoke to the people at dusk. And always, always, they looked at her like she was something divine—something he could never be. And in that quiet, bitter realization, it settled deep in his bones like a truth he could no longer outrun—he would never stand beside her as her equal. Never rise above her. Never be seen the way she was seen. No matter the crown upon his head or the power in his grasp, he would forever be the man standing just behind her light… lost in the shadow she cast. And with that realization, his original plan took form again...and he began to watch her. He learned her patterns the way a hunter learns prey: which staircase she favored in the west tower, which goblet she reached for at supper, which guards grew careless at nightfall, which doors were left unlatched when the wind howled loud enough to hide a scream. He followed her without being seen, listened without being noticed, counted every breath she took that did not belong to him. And in the quiet spaces between those observations, he imagined. A loosened stone—just one. One misstep on the tower stairs, one fall in the dark where no one would hear until it was far too late. Or fire—yes, fire was poetic, tragic, unpredictable. A cruel twist of fate for a queen of dragons. Or something softer. A tonic slipped sweetly into sugared wine. A fading. A weakening. A slow, mournful decline no healer could quite explain. So many ways. So many stories. He had not chosen one—not yet. He had to secure the heir first. But the method did not matter. Only the ending did. He could already see it: black drapes hanging from castle walls, bells tolling low across the city, people weeping in crowded streets, clutching candles and whispering her name. And him—standing above them all, grieving, noble, untouched by suspicion. A widowed king with tear-stung eyes and a steady hand. A ruler who had endured tragedy and risen stronger because of it. The crown would be his again. The heir would be his. The story would be his. And hers? Hers would be remembered as it needed to be—softened, twisted, rewritten into something distant and fragile. A tragic, tragic tale. #fantasysong #fantasymusic #fantasysongs #fantasylovers #epicsong #booktok #booktube #storysongs #music #newmusicalert #spotifyplaylist #fantasyplaylist #bookmusic #bookplaylist #newmusic #dnd #dungeonsanddragons #necromancer #dragons
