In this studio session I’m spending some time with pattern in my sketchbooks...flicking through pattern pages, sharing a few reference books that inspire me, and creating a sketchbook page with a patterned vase and background.
I use my sketchbooks as places to record ideas, explore what I’m drawn to, and let patterns develop naturally before they ever turn into paintings. They’re not precious or finished things... just spaces to play, experiment, and see what stays with me. These sketchbooks feed into my still life work later on, but they’re also pure joy to paint in.
