A World Away
This song is about the horrific war the US and Israel are waging against Iran. I wrote the lyrics, but reluctantly used AI to create the music since I can't play or sing right now. If I had a band, I would call it the Middle Aged Poets Militia (MAPM). If you like this song, please like, comment, and share. If you know musicians, it's open for use. Lyrics by Gilbert Schramm, video editing by Carol Schramm. Lyrics: A World Away Those bombers you cannot detect Lift heavily from the carrier decks We won’t be risking our necks Our cities won’t be burned and wrecked A world away our bombs are falling In morning light the birds are calling Rising from the new spring’s growth And somewhere near a child is bawling When the invisible planes have all flown on The things they passed above are gone Then fearful villagers come forth To gaze in dread at this new dawn To go to war without real reason Is the very worst of treasons Betrays our people and our nation In a fundamental desecration Do stealth planes leave their shadows on the ground Do they even make a sound? Proof of their passing lies all around But war crime guilt is seldom found A world away, far from our minds We do not see the missiles strike We can’t comprehend, fly blind Here we can’t see the planes or mines This war seems a world away But it’s just down your street, Just down the way, Near places where our children play In seemingly innocent offices down halls Down harmless plazas and new malls Where suited men at cyber screens Launch our attacks and record their screams In Washington where they make up the lies They hide from us just what is real How can we really understand or feel The kind of life and lives we steal? We never see the trigger pulled The bullets strike, the victims fall How can we possibly feel appalled We really don’t see much at all …and so we rarely get excited When another senseless war’s ignited We rarely see the warships sail Or the children and the widows wail The war is many worlds away And not our problem, not our call How did the enemy provoke our ire? They failed to do what we required That’s where they went sadly wrong They didn’t want to sing our song Chose the wrong men to lead them on But then we too have all been conned And we have more than our target to answer for Even though no bombs greet us at the door There may be nothing at the reactor’s core Or maybe the president just got bored… And after all this war today Is many, many, worlds away And some say is already won, The light is failing now, the day is done A world away the long night comes What we have wrought can’t be undone We may one day find we are the ones A world away from everyone And like all those who suffer, die, or run When our merciless bombers come We may find ourselves at last At the wrong end of the gun And then go down alone, Finally undone
