If you want to know how to save $100s by replacing your AC contactor and yourself, this should show you what to expect. The condenser contactor is essentially a switch that turns on your condenser. The thermostat is what engages the contactor giving power to the condenser to turn on. The contactor is essential to a healthy HVAC system and is a common issue that go wrong. If your condenser is staying on, making a bunch of clicking noises, or staying off, the contactor may be the issue. The contactor can get stuck in (which is what was happening to us) and the condenser will run even when the inside unit is off. It can also get stuck off so the unit won't turn on when it's supposed to (either because the 24v coil is bad or there is something blocking the contactor from making contact like a spiderweb or dead bug, etc.). There are ways to test/inspect the contactor, and I've listed a few in the video. If you have any questions, feel free to drop a comment and if I can help, I'd be happy too! Peace and God bless!
