AC Problems Blower Fan
It's summer in Miami. What a good time to have something go wrong with your AC system. I was watching tv and heard a loud thud that was followed by sawing sounds. Something fell into the blower fan of my AC unit. About a year ago this motor died and had to be replaced. It was an $800 repair! I feared this would be the same. I reached out to my AC guy but, it took him a while to get back to me. I decided to see if this is something that I could fix. The reason I make these videos is to help you do stuff and things. Based on what the procedure is, you can see if you feel comfortable doing this procedure. If not, please reach out to a licensed AC tech. I am not a licensed AC tech and doing this procedure is at your own risk. I wasn't sure if this was something I could do and this is why we are doing this video backwards starting with the re-assembly of the unit. The blower motor is inside the house in your AC unit cabinet most likely near your thermostat. First, turn off the breakers of the unit as well as the outside. I would also turn off the AC breakers in your house main circuit breaker panel. We will be working with the connections going to the motor and not touching anything else. You start by removing the 6 screws in your panel. You will notice that the assembly (motor and shroud) are held in place by few screws. Mark and disconnect the two plugs going into the motor. The assembly is on a rail. Slide it back and remove it. Depending on what the issue is you can go to the next steps. Using a crescent wrench I loosened the set screw in the middle of the blades. removed the 3 bolts holding in the motor. I removed the motor. Pay close attention as to what orientation of the blades and if the set screw is on left or right. Slide the motor out. Mine had a an object that was lodged in the blade. I needed to take apart the shroud. This is covered in detail in the first part of the video. You can also use this video to replace a bad motor. I had to remove the blade assembly to clean it. The rest of the video shows how to put everything back together. If you have any questions or comments please let me know. If you found this helpful, please let me know,
