Accessing and using CMIP data
Free global access to CMIP data remains at the heart of each phase of CMIP. With increasing model complexity and advances in data infrastructure, the systems used to access and use CMIP data may seem difficult to use. In this presentation, members of the WCRP-ESMO Infrastructure Panel and CMIP International Project Office covered: · How to access data from CMIP6 and past CMIP phases data. · Accessing CMIP7 data, and any changes users should expect from previous phases. · Community guidance, standards and other useful resources. The session included an overview of ESGF; searching the index, where publishing nodes are located, aspects users should consider when selecting a node, and what data may or may not be available on different nodes. Additionally, attendees received an overview of the new ESGF data supply chain, with guidance on how to search and access CMIP data most efficiently. During the session, there was an overview of Errata, the system used to track known problems and highlight new versions of datasets in the CMIP archive, and why it is important for users to utilise this system when analysing CMIP datasets. Throughout the session there were opportunities for questions and a at the end a 15-min discussion slot.
