Ataxia Subreddit: / ataxia About the Speaker- Speaker: Cameron Dietiker, MD Institution/Company Name: University of California, San Francisco Bio: Dr. Cameron Dietiker is a movement disorders neurologist at UCSF, where she co-directs the NAF Ataxia Center of Excellence. After completing her undergraduate degree at UCSD, she earned her medical degree at New York Medical College, where she was recognized by the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She completed a residency in neurology and a fellowship in movement disorders, both at UCSF, and remains there on faculty in her current position as Associate Professor of Neurology. She cares for patients with essential tremor, dystonia, Huntington's disease, genetic forms of ataxia, and Parkinson's disease as well as other forms of atypical parkinsonism including multiple system atrophy. She specializes in using deep brain stimulation and botulinum toxin therapy to treat many of these conditions. Dr. Dietiker participates in several clinical trials and observational studies that aim to identify risk factors, biomarkers and better treatment options for various movement disorders. She is also an assistant program director for the UCSF Neurology Residency Program, and hopes to inspire the brightest minds to pursue clinical and research endeavors that help people affected by movement disorders. Professionally, her priorities are caring for patients and teaching the next generation of neurologists. About the Series: NAF is producing a series of monthly educational webinars that focus on one type of Ataxia at a time. Each month we will feature a different type. Clinical experts will join us to take a look at the causes and symptoms of the disease, the typical diagnostic journey for those affected, and what to expect for clinical care. Research experts will teach us how the disease is studied and give an overview of the current state of research and drug development.
