Ataxia Subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/ataxia/ About the Speaker- Speaker: Pravin Khemani, MD Institution/Company Name: Swedish Neuroscience Institute Bio: Pravin Khemani, MD, FAAN is the Medical Director Movement Disorders Clinic, Swedish Neuroscience Institute, Providence Health & Services. He is a subspecialty trained movement disorders neurologist with expertise in clinical treatment and research in Parkinson’s disease, atypical Parkinsonian syndromes, Tremors, Cerebellar ataxia, and dystonia. He is committed to improving the quality of life of patients and caregivers affected by neurodegenerative movement disorders through a multidisciplinary approach. In his clinical work he has developed several clinical projects and service lines, with direct leadership experience in the interdisciplinary care of movement disorders. He has been awarded teaching and QI awards at the regional and national levels. He has significant experience in establishing multidisciplinary clinics for the treatment of Parkinsonian disorders and adult neurogenetic disorders and strives to establish similar services lines at Providence-Swedish. He is an ardent advocate of enhancing health literacy in Parkinson disease, tremors and ataxia and is very involved in educating patients, caregivers and his peers through community outreach and educational conferences. He enjoys training medical students, residents and fellows in the clinic and participating in cutting edge clinical research in movement disorders. Outside of work he enjoys traveling, hiking, exploring the PNW, listening to public radio, and reading. About the Series: NAF is producing a series of monthly educational webinars that focus on one type of Ataxia at a time. Each month we will feature a different type. Clinical experts will join us to take a look at the causes and symptoms of the disease, the typical diagnostic journey for those affected, and what to expect for clinical care. Research experts will teach us how the disease is studied and give an overview of the current state of research and drug development.
