AMD Keeps Killing their Own GPUs

Seems every generation of AMD GPUs promises are made... yet nothing ends up changing in the grand-scheme of things. Why is this the case? Worth looking into because it is quite a complex issue. Also, would AMD have some sort of motivation to act the way that they are?
