Amstrad PCW 8256: Personal Computer Wordprocessor Unboxing, Setup, Locoscript & Printer Test
In todays video join me as I take a look at a computer I've waited 40 years for, the Amstrad PCW 8256. We'll get it unboxed, take a look at what was included for the £399 + VAT this system originally sold for in the UK, set it all up, take a look at the famous UK TV ad, before trying my hand at using the Locoscript word processor for the first time, and printing out a document on the included dot matrix printer. This Amstrad PCW 8256 was bought for me last year as a Christmas present for £80 on eBay, but with so many projects, only recently got around to trying it out. It had already been serviced, and has the 256kb memory upgrade fitted, so this is a 512kb machine, making it almost a PCW8512, but with just the one 3" floppy disk drive. It's had a good clean, and since making this video, has also been retrobrited, and also managed to obtain some brand new printer ribbons. DISCLAIMER This video is not a tutorial or offering advice, I'm using this computer for the first time myself, so I'm not an expert on the Amstrad PCW 8256, this is just my hobby, and I've wanted this machine in my collection for a long time. I make videos about retro technology using the retro technology I collect. This content was filmed on a SD Digital Camcorder, a Panasonic SRD-D70, and edited using Audacity, Windows Movie Maker, with the Chroma key advert segment created using Openshot. I'm trying to be more professional, but for now, very amateur. If enjoy content like this please like and subscribe, and also share your experience in the comments if you've had experience of using or owning this machine yourself. Contains original UK TV advert, and edited audio commentary from a Thames TV Database episode, both freely available to view on Youtube.
