An Introduction to Gold Leaf

Introducing Edible Pure Gold leaf – how do you use it and what can it be used for? We answer all this and more in today’s gold leaf tutorial with Karin. In this video, you will learn how to use three different types of packaged gold leaf: transfer sheets, loose leaf, and in a pot. Transfer sheets are easier to work with and are ideal for when you want to cover your cake or large areas in gold leaf. You won’t get it perfect due to the delicate nature of the product but with a little practice you can get it pretty close! Using a brush, you want to prepare your surface with a touch of water (that is slightly sticky to the touch) for the gold leaf to stick to before smoothing it down with a wide brush. Loose leaf & pot o’ gold is more suited for when you want to break off small pieces to decorate your cakes, cookies, brownies, and more with a little edible gold leaf detailing.
