When God's Spirit departs, a counterfeit spirit often fills the void. We may deceive ourselves into thinking we can bribe God’s Spirit with offerings, loud prayers, or rituals, but in reality, His Spirit delights in one thing: our obedience to His Word. Pour draws heavily from Amos 8:11, which says, "The days are coming," declares the Sovereign Lord, "when I will send a famine throughout the land. Not a famine of food or thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord." This verse speaks to the emptiness we experience when we grieve the Holy Spirit, causing Him to withdraw and leave us to our own devices. When this happens, we are left to live according to our own ways, which often leads to destruction.
