These ants are known as alates. They are sexually mature, reproductive ants (queens and males) that leave the colony to mate and start new colonies.
They usually swarm in large numbers during warm, humid weather and are often called swarmer ants.
These ants are distinguished from termites by their pinched, narrow waists, elbow antennae and larger front wings.
Queens will lose their wings after waiting, while males will die shortly after.
