This midi remote script for the APC40 turns it into a 5 lane 64 note sequencer without using Max 4 Live. It is pretty sleek and has worked well for me so far. Hopefully this video does a reasonable job demonstrating what is capable with this midi remote script.
I don't mention in the video, but this script allows you to alter the start and length of not only midi clips, but audio clips as well.
