Click the link below for the NEW 2021 version. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QjOt1eLlHA This video explores the planet Venus, Aphrodite (Greek goddess of love and beauty), and the word Lucifer. But how do they all connect? To find out we have to look up to stars... and go back in time to world of Hesiod's Ancient Greece, the Roman poet Lucretius's epic poem "De Rerum Natura" (On the Nature of Things) composed in honor of Venus, the philosopher Epicurus, the king of Babylon, and the book of Isaiah from the Hebrew Bible. It’s thought that the spirit of Venus, goddess of love, helped kickstart the Renaissance. Who knew there was such an epic tale behind the planet Venus, the hottest planet in our solar system? The video was inspired in part by the book “The Swerve: How the Renaissance Began” by Stephen Greenblatt: https://www.amazon.com/Swerve-How-Renaissance-Began-ebook/dp/B005L18C4E/ref=nodl_ English translation of the Address to Venus by Lucretius from “De Rerum Natura” taken from poetryfoundation.org: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/50350/address-to-venus 🖼 🎨 Paintings shown in video (in order of appearance): The Birth of Venus, William-Adolphe Bouguereau link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Birth_of_Venus_(Bouguereau) The Fall of Lucifer, Esquivel (Museo del Prado, Madrid Spain) https://www.museodelprado.es/en/the-collection/art-work/the-fall-of-lucifer/9e8f74fa-1736-4526-baa4-0075c3513eb6 The Birth of Venus, Sandro Botticelli, 1485 ca (Uffizi, Florence Italy) link: https://www.uffizi.it/en/artworks/birth-of-venus If you liked this video and want to see more like it, be sure to SUBSCRIBE to the channel to be notified when the next video is release.
