In this video, I’m helping a mate push a large extension up to lintel height in the middle of winter.
The weather has been rough — frost, snow, and cold temperatures — but we still manage to get all the internal blockwork up to nine courses in a short space of time. Working alongside apprentice Jake, we focus on good setup, correct use of levels and lines, and adapting how we work in cold conditions.
I also explain how we’re managing temperature on site, including the use of additives in the mortar and protecting fresh brickwork and blockwork with hessian to prevent frost damage.
This is a solid couple of days on the tools, mixing graft with a bit of teaching, and pushing the job on safely before the weather turns again. We’ll be back on this one in a few months for the steels and knock-throughs, which should be a big one.
Thanks for watching and I’ll see you in the next video.
