This training session's theme is Posture. While elements of posture include positioning of the appendages (legs, arms, head) this video focuses primarily on Core Alignment (pelvis and torso) for the purpose of preventing or eliminating Hollow Back. Although a graphic of Open Stance is provided for clarity, this session was designed with the assumption that viewers are proficient at establishing a consistent Open Stance. Hollow Back is characterized by a lifting of the chest and arching of the lumbar spine at any point during the shot cycle. Aligning the core, the pelvis and torso, is crucial to preventing a Hollow Back. Core alignment is therefore essential in having a powerful, consistent shot and to achieving Holding. The athlete is likely not going to be able to find Holding mentally if they are not comfortable and truly aligned in the shot. In addition, loss of back tension, high draw-side elbow, and poor string clearance can be just a few of the consequences of a Hollow Back. Build your sense for what proper posture feels like in this 4-step Crush the Towel progression, with cues. Then, apply and test your sense of what proper posture feels like in the Foundations activity following an MDESA/6 format, and using the Get The Point method of assessment. Train ugly. Keep going.
