# About the Star Arcturus, also known as Alramech, Azimech, Kalanaz, Alpha Boötis (lat. α Boötis) or 16 Boötis (lat. 16 Boötis), catalog number HD 124897, is a single star located in the constellation Boötes at a distance of approximately 37.3 light-years (11.4 parsecs) from the Sun. The age of this celestial body is estimated to be about 7.1 billion years. Arcturus is the brightest star in the constellation Boötes and in the Northern Hemisphere, and it ranks fourth in brightness among all stars in the night sky, surpassed only by Sirius, Canopus, and the Alpha Centauri system.
