Are Cables Really Directional?

In this video, I answer the question about wire and cable directionality. Some audiophiles and exotic cable companies claim wire has directionality at the molecular level when extruded. They claim this directionality affects sound quality or performance. Is this even possible or is it snake oil? I also discuss cable directionality related to interconnects and HDMI cables. Why is there an arrow and what does it mean? Shielded interconnects sometimes have the shield lifted on one end of the cable. In those cases, the source side should be connected to the cable side that has the shield grounded to reduce noise pick up. Active HDMI cables are directional since one side has an internal chip that converts the electrical signal to light and that's typically connected to the source side. Speaker cables are the simplest example and the claims about wire directionality have no merit based on established electrical engineering principles and provable measurements.
