Strategy: Arrays – 7 × 16 For 7 × 16, I’ll build an array with 7 rows and 16 in each row. To model this with base-ten blocks, I’ll set up 7 rows, each with 1 rod for ten and 6 unit cubes for ones. Now I’ll combine: 7 rods of 10 each equals 70, or 7 tens. 7 rows of 6 ones equals 42 ones, which also equals 4 tens and 2 ones. 7 tens plus 4 tens equals 11 tens and can be regrouped as 1 hundred and 1 ten Altogether, that’s 112.
