Assignment 7.1: Skills Lab #2
Group Description: This is a closed psychoeducational CBT-based group for youth ages 15–17 who have had repeated involvement with the juvenile justice system, including prior arrests, probation, or detention placements. The group, titled "Power Source: Building Emotional Awareness and Self-Control," meets weekly on Tuesdays at 4:00 PM at the St. Vincent’s Hospital Westchester—Community Reentry Program. The focus is to help participants build self-awareness, emotional regulation, and decision-making skills through CBT and trauma-informed approaches. The current stage of group development is performing, meaning members are comfortable sharing and applying learned skills. The group integrates Power Source curriculum principles to help youth reframe negative thoughts, understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and identify healthy coping mechanisms and resources in their community.
