❤️ Atenolol is another beta-1 selective blocker, similar to Metoprolol, but it’s longer-acting and less commonly used in EMS today. Still, it’s a must-know for registry.
In this video, we’ll cover:
– Drug class & mechanism (beta-1 adrenergic blocker → slows HR, lowers BP)
– Indications: hypertension, angina, tachyarrhythmias, post-MI
– Dose, routes (mostly oral)
– Side effects: bradycardia, hypotension, fatigue, dizziness
– Registry tip: Metoprolol vs. Atenolol = both are selective beta-1 blockers, but know the clinical differences
🧠 On exams, Atenolol often shows up as a patient med list drug you should recognize, not something you’ll be giving in the field.
