Automatic tool change in turning centres

Manual tool changes have long limited the performance of turning centres. Each interruption affects production flow, lowers utilization, and increases dependence on skilled labour, especially when machining complex components that require many tools. This film from our Gimo facility shows how Automatic Tool Change (ATC) addresses that challenge. Using machine-adapted clamping units with a Coromant Capto® interface, a robot can automatically perform tool changes with consistent, repeatable accuracy. Developed in collaboration with machine tool builders and automation specialists, the solution supports safer handling, more predictable tool-change performance, and improved utilization.
