Today I look at splitting some tough, knotty, forked, twisted and dry logs - with a 7lb Maul. I like to 'read' each log first, to best decide the pattern of hits needed. The logs are: English Yew, Box, English Oak, Cedar and Robinia. I have a wood grenade, but prefer the maul. Safety is a even more of a consideration with difficult logs, as chips fly and an axe ricochet is more likely. Nice that Albert Einstein respected log splitting!
