Back in the 1970s, hip-hop culture was new. Dancers called b-boys performed during instrumental "breaks" in songs. Their dynamic style was called breaking. It included tap, dance, and gymnastics. Rhythm was a fundamental. Breaking also incorporated martial arts. In the Bronx, crews of b-boys battled in the streets. Crews got better and better. Battles became harder to win. Therefore, b-boys invented new moves. One move was the headspin. In order to protect their heads, b-boys wore hard hats to spin. Ana Garcia loved to watch b-boys, but the dancers were always guys. Ana thought there should be b-girls. She started practicing at home. No one could try to stop her. When she was ready, she hit the streets. She was so good that some guys were scared to battle her. Her skills would propel her to stages around the world. She soon opened a hip-hop school. Now, there are many b-girls. Ana was proud to lead the way.
