I love this little guy with all my heart Nerdy Bonsai Details: A year ago I rescued a Ginseng Ficus bonsai from depot. I say rescued because the "pot" that it was in has no drainage holes and was being kept indoors in mediocre artificial light. Im sure Home Depot and Lowes both do this to slowly kill a plant and trick a person in thinking that it was their own fault. They then go out and buy more plants. One day I noticed that a couple roots had started budding from the side of the plant and I began to wonder if a mass of air roots were possible on a plant like this. I was trying to achieve a jungle look on the Ginseng. Exactly a year ago I surrounded the tree's body with bonsai soil and plastic from a bag of Frosted Flakes. The results were beyond my expectations. There is still alot of work to be done specifically acclimating the air roots to their new dry environment. A year with a plastic bag covering the plant made the humidity extremely high and I will need to slowly edge it off. In order to do this I made sure to keep a soil mound wrapped inside the roots. Another big thing I did was to only trim the roots that were growing off the base of plant. Some will see that I wrapped the air roots as tightly as possible and left their length untouched under a little mountain of dirt. I finally added moss in order to help retain moisture. This will keep the ends of the roots wet even if the top of those very roots are completely dry. The next couple days are going to be rainy so a plastic bag is unnecessary right now however mid summer I will start covering the plant after watering. I 3D printed everything off an Anet A8 I built a while back. The jumpcuts are sick but the print actually took 26 hours lmao. The print had major edge warping but my 3D printer is kinda cheap so I cant really complain. Also fuck big petroleum and anti vaxxers.
